Eagles were formerly as a country rock band coming forward in Los Angeles, California in 1971. However, the origins of the band can be traced back to Longbranch Pennywhistle, a duo formed by Glenn Frey and John David (J.D.) Souther in 1968.
This duo eventually became Linda Ronstadt's stage band with Souther as songwriter and Frey playing on stage alongside fellow friends Don Henley, Randy Meisner, and Bernie Leadon.
As a no-named band, the Eagles toured with Linda Ronstadt and worked with her at the recording studio after her former band, The Stone Poneys were dissolved. In 1970, The Eagles signed with Asylum Records and began their own career recording a self-titled album that was released in June 1972; an album that shortly afterwards went platinum.
This album produced the hit single "Take it easy", written by friend Jackson Browne, neighbor of Souther and Frey during their early days in Los Angeles after leaving their hometown of Detroit. Souther, who was raised in Amarillo, Texas, invited Amarillo-born Don Henley to the songwriting team, making of this quartet the successful creative force behind Eagles' hits.
Eagles were responsible for the so-called Southern California rock that was popularized and echoing through other bands in the 1970’s. In 1973, The Eagles released "Desperado" that went 2x platinum, the same as the following album, "On the Border", that marked the addition of Don Felder to the band's lineup.
In 1975, "One of these Nights" turned into 4x platinum and the farewell for Bernie Leadon, who was replaced by the famous James Gang's guitarist Joe Walsh.
The Eagles achieved their major success with their multi-platinum, multi-award winning and most representative album "Hotel California" released in December 2006, an album that marked the departure of Randy Meisner.
After touring intensively during half of the 1970’s placing numerous top-ten hits on the international charts, the Eagles took a break before recording their last album, "The Long Run" in the fall of 1979 with former Poco's bassist Timothy Schmit replacing Meisner.
The band rejoined again in 1994 for an unplugged MTV special, tours, and special tributes to friends who passed away including Warren Zevon. Actually, the Eagles have recorded their seventh album, "Long Road Out of Eden" scheduled to be released on October 30, 2007.
