When it comes to choosing a name for a rock band, sometimes finding a catchy name is not enough if the members wish to share with their public part of their own identity, feelings, or beliefs. Avenged Sevenfold was formed in Huntington Beach during the summer of 1999 after their former members felt identified with God's Biblical story depicting Cain's death under his brother Abel.
This name cannot make sense to people who read the Bible, wondering why a rock group decided to call the band this name, but for Avenged Sevenfold's members this is not all as they call themselves with allusive religious names. Avenged Sevenfold members include Zacky Vengeance (vocals), M. Shadows (guitar), Synyster Gates (guitar), Johnny Christ (bass) and The Reverend (drums).
Also known as A7X, Avenged Sevenfold is a band which music denotes influences from Pantera, Metallica, The Misfits, Guns N' Roses, Hatebreed, Iron Maiden, Bad Religion, and NOFX, although the band's albums keep a coherent connection with the group's beliefs.
Avenged Sevenfold's debut album was entitled "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet" and Good Life Recordings in July 2001 released it. That same year, a new production was relapsed under the name of "Warmness on the Soul".
In 2003, a new recording label produced and released Avenged Sevenfold's third album "Waking the Fallen", peaking at number 12 in the independent albums chart with about 175,000 copies sold in the United States. This successful recording brought the attention of Warner Bros. Records, signing Avenged Sevenfold for the release of their 2005 album "City of Evil".
Avenged Sevenfold topped number 30 at the Billboard chart during that same year and obtained the RIAAA Gold Certification for 850,000 copies sold only in the United States. A breakthrough into the mainstream came with the band's live run at the main stage of the Warped Tour.
In 2006, the band won the Best New Artist Award at the MTV Video Music Awards, and their single "City of the Evil" was number 30 on Billboard's Top Chart. Avenged Sevenfold built up their profile making continuos live presentations at both Fuse and MTV in recent years.
