Even though Rod Stewart is today a famous British singer and songwriter that has touched the hearts of many through his songs, his humble beginning can be an inspiration to all that wish to follow their dreams.

Roderick David Stewart was born in Highgate, North London to parents that owned a newsagent shop. Before becoming the superstar that we all know, he worked as a grave digger and then joined Wizz Jones in the 1960’s to begin his singing career. He and Jones traveled throughout Europe as street singers; however, this was not promising as he was deported for vagrancy in Spain.

His first real touch of fame came with the forming of the Ray Davies Quartet in 1962, which became The Kinks whereas he was lead singer. John Stuart’s mother complained about his voice not working well with the rest of the group and he was dropped after only one session.

Rod went back home to London and joined with Jimmy Powell & the Five Dimensions in 1964 as a vocalist along with harmonica player. After this, Rod joined The Hoochie Coochie Men, which evolved into the Steampacket. In 1966, the Steampacket dissolved and Rod then joined Shotgun Express as lead vocalist. One single was released before the breakup of the band. Next, Rod joined the Jeff Beck Group as vocalist.

Finally, Rod signed a solo contract with Mercury Records and released his first solo album in 1969, “On Old Raincoat Won’t Ever Let You Down”. During this time, Rod along with Ron Wood joined The Faces, which released a debut album, First Step, in 1970. The second solo album was Gasoline Alley and with this Rod went on tour.

Not only is Rod a name that has been recognized through his music talents, but he is also known as being quite the ladies man in which he has seven children from five different women.

Rod Stewart has received many awards and recognitions, which include CBE in 2007, Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2005, Diamond Award of World Music Award in 2001, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
