
Elvis Aaron Presley better known as the King of Rock n’ Roll was born on January 8, 1935 to Vernon and Gladys Presley in Tupelo, Mississippi. His mother gave birth to two boys on that day, however, one was stillborn, and the other was Elvis. His father worked at various jobs to make ends meet to provide what he could for his wife and son. Until 1948 when the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee with the hopes of better employment opportunities, the family lived in various homes throughout Tupelo.
During the time, Elvis lived in Tupelo his love for music and performing was formed. At the age of 10, Elvis was a contestant at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show where he sang “Old Shepâ€. The prize was $5 and free tickets to all the rides.
Elvis graduated junior high school in Tupelo and as a farewell; he performed the song “Leaf of a Tree.â€
When first arriving in Memphis, the family must live in low rent home or public housing in North Memphis. Elvis went on to high school while his father still had a very hard time providing for his family. Elvis graduated Humes High School on June 3, 1953.
After graduating high school, Elvis goes to work at Parker Machinists Shop. During the summer he made a demo at the Memphis Recording Service with “My Happiness†and “That’s When Your Heartaches Beginâ€. This demo costs Elvis $4 and he gave it to his mother for her birthday.
Elvis finally gets his break in the summer of 1954, when after making another demo, Sam Phillips owner of the Recording Service known as Sun Records becomes very interested in the sound and looks of this young man. Elvis tried a song for him, “Without Youâ€, that did not impress Phillips, but of course he knew talent was there He teams Elvis up with Scotty Moore (guitar) and Bill Black (bass).
This was just the beginning! After this time, Elvis went on to be seen in various television shows, movies, and record top selling singles and albums. Elvis had 81 albums that went either Gold or Platinum, starred in various music singing some of hits, and topped charts for singles, pop singles, country singles, R&B singles and pop albums world wide from 1956 until 1977.
Elvis married Priscilla in May of 1967, they had one child, Lisa Marie, but divorce in 1972. Elvis passes away on August 16, 1977 of heart failure.
