
New York's progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria were originally formed in 1995 in Nyack, New York as the Shabutie Trio, eventually evolving to in 1995 Coheed and Cambria, officially formed in 2001 in Kingston, New York.
Coheed and Cambria began a career in music performing with a series of styles that ranged from Indie rock to pop metal and from punk and acoustic rock to funk before defining a style as a new progressive rock band.
The band's was made of Claudio Sanchez, Travis Stever, Nate Kelley and Jon Carleo, members who already had a musical background playing with Toxic Parents and Moe & The Boogie Cats, but the band suffered their first lineup change late in 2001 with Joshua Eppard replacing Nate Kelley's departure.
Coheed and Cambria’s debut album. "The Second Stage Turbine Blade" is a conceptual album released by Equal Vision Records the next year featuring Dr. Know's Bad Brains guest appearance.
Then after, Coheed and Cambria toured extensively for over a year promoting their album, with the addition on stage of keyboardist Dave Parker, who joined the band only during their live performances.
Although, "The Second Stage Turbine Blade" is Coheed and Cambria, it is conceptual because of being the second part of a five-chapter saga. This is the story of the doomed marriage of Coheed and Cambria, two fictional characters in need to sacrifice their children to save the world from a viral infection embedded in their genes.
As support material to the band's music, Claudio Sanchez wrote a novel with detailed graphics explaining the plot of Coheed and Cambria, and showcasing his talent as musician, writer, and graphics artist.
As of today, four out of the five novel parts have been released as albums: "The Second Stage Turbine Blade" (February 2002), In "Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3" (October 2003), "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness" (September 2005), and "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow", scheduled to be released sometime in October 2007.
Claudo Sanchez has also written other comic books and has a side-project called The Prize Fighter Inferno, which is prequel to the saga of Coheed and Cambria albums.
