prince

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 7, 1958 he was given the name Prince Rogers Nelson. He has also been known as “The artist Formerly Known as Prince’ along with a variety of other names, not so famous.

His music consists of R&B, Funk, Soul, and today has gotten into New wave, pop, rock, blues, jazz and now even hip-hop. The Minneapolis sound is what started his career for him.

Even though he already has over several hundred songs, under his name or other artists he is very protective of his music. He produces, composes, arranges, and performs nearly all his songs on the albums. He has had many a complement on his distinct proficiency with various instruments.

It was after the birth of his sister, Shanika, in 1960 that his parents drifted apart. When they formerly separated, he had a troubled relationship with his step-dad and this made him run away from home. He soon went to his real father and he was the one who bought him his first guitar. He left his father and moved in with the Andersons who were friends of theirs and he became friends with their son, Andre. Later he called him Andre Cymone. He started a band with him and some friends and named it Grand Central. He mainly played instrumental but as time he began to learn more and more. Eventually Prince started arranging stuff for the band.

He stayed after it and went on to make a demo and there was a bidding war between labels as to who would get this up and coming star. Warner Bros. records won out.

The band recorded, “Minneapolis Genius-The historic 1977 Recordings”. This was not released for many years; however, it is considered his first album. Prince played 25 of the instruments on the album. When it released it only made it to the bottom of the Billboard 200. The single, “Soft and Wet” did better on the R&B charts.

He has performed on Dick Clark’s show, which Dick said he was surprised the band came from Minneapolis, of all places. He refused to speak after that and just used his head and hands to answer since he was so upset.

He attracted a lot of attention on the way he dressed and the clothes he wore on stage. He just said he liked the way it looked on him.

There is just so much on prince to fit it all in one page, however, Prince is one of the most famous musicians of all times. Prince performed at the Super Bowl XLI halftime show in Miami, Florida on February 4, 2007 in a magnificent performance.
