Backed by over 15 millions of albums sold worldwide, Staind is one of the most successful alternative metal bands of the third millennium. The band formed in Springfield, Massachusetts on November 24, 1995. Staind was making covers before independently releasing their first album, "Tormented" in November 2006.
The band if made up Aaron Lewis (vocalist and acoustic guitar), Mike Mushok (lead guitar), and Johnny April (bass), and Jon Wysocki (drums). Sepultura and Pantera have mainly influenced Staind and “Tormented" is perhaps the closest approach to this early heavy metal root along with a polemic cover artwork featuring a knife, a bible, and a sacrificed Barbie doll.
The next few months brought the breakthrough that put together Staind and Limp Bizkit on stage at the Webster Theater in Hartford, Connecticut and sold over 2000 copies of their second album "Dysfunction" in 1999. Later, Staind and Limp Bizkit went on the Family Values Tour during autumn of that year.
"Break the Cycle" was released in May 2001 under Flip/Elektra Records label gaining international recognition for Staind after selling over 7 million copies topping number one in America and Great Britain charts. This musical work marked a change of trend toward alternative metal that brought the attention of critics from diverse rock and pop magazines.
Following album, "14 Shades of Grey" (2003 and Chapter V (2005) reaffirmed Staind alternative metal's leadership with platinum RIAA Certifications and number one positions in the USA Charts. The huge success of Staind took the band to TV promotions and, eventually a new album.
"The Singles" compiles the musical work of Staind from 1996 to 2006, released on November 2006, celebrating 10 years of continuous work and with plans to be released under the title of "Greatest Hits", including most of their well-known singles and three of the band's early covers.
As of today, Staind's debut album can be acquired only through the band's web site, and the gold 2002 DVD MTV Unplugged performance is available on the Internet. Although, there is not a release date for an upcoming album, Staind's fans can keep track of their current activities at the group's official web site.
