Kanye West is an American rapper and record producer born on June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, Georgia. His life began as a happy as most with both parents dotting over their newborn, however, by the time Kanye was three years of age his parents divorced. After the divorce, Kanye and his mother moved to Chicago, Illinois. His father is a former Black Panther member, one of the first black photojournalist at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and today is a Christian counselor. His mother is Dr. Donda West who worked as the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University before her retirement.
Kanye lived a pretty normal childhood and attended Polaris High School in Oak Lawn, Illinois. After high school, Kanye then attend The American Academy of Art and the Chicago State University. However, he never finished college because he wanted to pursue a career in music. During his time at school, he produced some local artists, but once he left school, his producing days were heavy. He produced such artists as Cam’ron, Jay-Z, Mobb Deep, Paul Wall, The Game, Common, Alicia Keys, Jermaine Dupri, Eminem, John Legend, and Janet Jackson.
In 2001, Kanye’s style was featured on Jay’Z’s album “The Blueprint which was released on September 11, 2001. His work was also heard on the lead single “Izzo (H.O.V.A)†and “Takeover.†Kayne has worked with Mobb Deep and Nas even more after the release of “Takeoverâ€.
October 23, 2002 brought a change to Kanye’s life, as he was involved in a car wreck after falling asleep at the wheel. Kanye’s first single “Through The Wire†was writing shortly after the crash. Kanye has strong faith in the Lord, which can be heard in various songs such as “Jesus Walksâ€.
A financial dispute with Royce Da 5’9†over the song “Heartbeat†occurred in 2004 with Kanye vowing never to work with Royce again as he proclaims he was never paid for the beat.
August 30, 2005, Kanye released his second album, “Late Registrationâ€. This album achieved the number one spot on the village Voice’s Pazz & Jop Critics poll of 2005. The two singles from the album “Diamonds from Sierra Leone†featuring Shirley Bassey, and “Gold Digger†featuring Jamie Foxx sold over 860,000 copies during its first week. these singles also gave him 8 Grammy Award nominations, which included Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Gold Diggerâ€.
Today, Kayne is still going very strong which could be seen with his performance at the 2007 V Festival performing his latest song “Stronger†along with several of his classics.
