dashboard confessional

Alternative rock band Dashboard Confessional was formed in 1999 in Boca Raton, Florida as a side project developed by singer-songwriter Chris Carrabba after his experience with the local post-hardcore band "Further Seems Forever".

Dashboard Confessional was named after the lyrics of the song "The Sharp Hint of New Tears", a name that was inspirational and began to produce a number of acoustic rock songs that were released throughout 2000.

However, the name Dashboard Confessional was a name chosen to refer to a one-man project, Chris Carrabba, but which eventually dragged into the band's lineup were John Lefler, Scott Schoenbeck, Mike Marsh, John Ralston, Susan Sherouse, and Dan Bonebrake.

Dashboard Confessional's debut album, "The Swiss Army Romance", was reproduced, but with a short release of nearly 1000 copies. This album was often referred to as the band's album or Carrabba's album indistinctly.

During 2001 and 2002, either the Dashboard Confessional or Chris Carrabba alone went on tour, playing mostly on stage with friends. Dashboard Confessional soon would receive airplay by many radio stations interested in the exposure of acoustic rock as an alternative to other predominant musical trends.

When it comes to the band's discography, Dashboard Confessional has recorded and released seven albums in seven years between 2000 and 2007, three of which went gold and double platinum.

According to rock critic, the music of Dashboard Confessional is influenced by early work from The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, R.E.M., Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbox, Jawbreaker, Knapsack, and Billy Bragg.

At a time, Dashboard Confessional has influenced other groups and musicians, including Emery, Amber Pacific, Jamison Parker, and Story of the Year among other groups.

The band has also won several awards, including MTV Video Music Award in 2002 and they have been invited to perform guest appearances at different musical events such as the Brick Awards in spring 2007.

According to the band's official web site, Dashboard Confessional will be touring North America alone during autumn with guest performers John Ralston and Augustana on stage, while the band's new album is available for streaming at their MySpace website.
