alesana

Post-hardcore is a musical genre rooted in the early punk movement of the late 1970s, and there is no other band like Alesana to represent this modern movement on stage. With a former background in Baltimore, the band was formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, in October of 2004 by Shawn Milke (guitars & vocals), Patrick Thompson (guitars) Dennis Lee (lead singer), Steven Tomany (bass), and Daniel Magnuson (drums).

Incidentally, the innovative musical proposal of the band soon gained fans from all over the world, including those devoted to progressive rock, heavy metal, pop rock, and many other musical trends. Alesana first signed with Tragic Hero Records in May of 2005 and later, in June the band's first EP, "Try This With Your Eyes Closed", was released featuring seven tracks.

Like most of the modern bands, Alesana began their way to stardom by promoting themselves on the Internet and word of mouth. Thanks to the universality of the web providing online shopping, Alesana's first album was sold in most countries around the world that encouraged Tragic Hero Records to release the band's second production in June 2006.

"On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax" surpassed the success of its predecessor album and Alesana enrolled into an extensive tour across the United States and Mexico during 2006 and 2007. The band has also participated in important festivals, such as the Cornerstone Festival and performed a guest appearance at MTV’s “My Super-Sweet Sixteen" series.

Their popularity grew; Alesana began with changes among its musicians and the contract with Fearless Records that released a full version of their debut album "On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax". Today, Alesana's members are Shavan Guzman (vocals), Dennis Lee (vocals), Shawn Mike (vocals, guitars, & piano), Patrick Thompson (guitars), Adam Ferguson (vocals & guitars), Shane Crump (Bass), and Jeremy Bryan (drums).

Although, some music critics consider the band as an evolution of punk into acoustics sounds due to a band with three vocalists, Shawn Milke, one of the vocalists, has said, "We're all about dynamics, both musically and vocally". This might be true because the dynamics of Alesana keep moving masses with their rhythm.
