Electronic music band Depeche Mode is considered part of the new Romantic Movement that emerged from Great Britain in the early 1980’s. In fact, the band was formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex (England), consisting of David Gahan, Martin Gore, Andrew Fletcher, and Vince Clarke, basing their musical identity entirely around the use of synthesizers.

However, the band was rooted in early efforts of their members between 1976 and 1979 before evolving to techno-rock and eventually turning their music into the darker and more dramatic sound that led them to stardom.

Between 1981 and 1983, Depeche Mode played numerous gigs around the UK and produced their first three albums that since the early day began to climb the UK charts and returned positive critics from prestigious music magazines including Rolling Stone.

However, it was not until 1984, after the release of the album "Some Great Reward" that Depeche Mode received a RIAA Platinum certification with over 1 million copies sold and breaking into the international top-ten hit charts and beginning a series of tours abroad.

Depeche Mode arose in a time that video music was the boom of the era and eventually would produce 14 full-length video releases between 1985 and 2006. The band's discography encompasses eleven official studio albums recorded between 1981 and 2005, but there are many other, official and unofficial, compilations, live albums and other recordings.

From their earlier albums to the present, Depeche Mode has placed over 50 singles in the UK, US and other countries charts, including the song hits "Dreaming of Me", "New Life", "Just Can't Get Enough", "The Meaning of Love", "People Are People" and "Master and Servant".

Although, the popularity of the band declined in the late 1990s, Depeche Mode has remained active during the 2000’s, touring extensively and joining with other pop bands and musicians of the 1980’s, such as Kajagoogoo and Howard Jones, as musical contributors in a PC game in Simlish.

In November 2006, MTV Europe Music Awards awarded Depeche Mode in the Best Group category and the band was also nominated for The MTV European Music Awards Interact Category in 2007.
