Canadian Post-Hardcore band Silverstein formed in 2000 in Burlington, Ontario was named after Shel Silverstein, famous children's author. During their early days, Silverstein recorded two EP’s, "Summer's Stellar Gaze” released on August 29, 2000, and "When the Shadows Beam" released on April 26, 2002.

In October 2002, the band signed to Victory Records with a stable lineup to go on tour throughout Eastern Canada. In 2003, the band got into the studio to record their debut album, "When Broken Is Easily Fixed" released in May of that year.

Featuring 12 tracks, the album peaked at number 48 on the Top Heatseekers and number 50 on the Top Independent Albums charts during 2005, when the album was released in the United States.

While Silverstein's debut album was breaking into the mainstream, the band was recording their second album, "Discovering the Waterfront", released on August 16, 2005. This album produced three top ten hits; "Smile In Your Sleep", "My Heroine", and "Discovering The Waterfront", all of which were released with supporting video music.

"Smile in your Sleep" is a song based on the crime fiction board game Clue that was profusely played by most music video stations but especially on FUSE. This song was also chosen to be included as the soundtrack for the video game MVP 06: NCAA Baseball of the EA Sports series.

During 2005, Silverstein went on their own Never Sleep Again tour alongside hardcore bands Hawthorne Heights, Aiden, and Bayside. In 2006, the band toured Europe alternating with Simple Plan, and later they went to Canada for a tour with Taste of Chaos Tour.

Silverstein also toured Australia and Japan before joining the Warped Tour 2006 in support of an EP compilation entitled "18 Candles: The Early Years" that compiles their early self-financed EP’s with additional live and acoustic material.

"Discovering the Waterfront” was re-released in September of 2006 with an extra track featuring a cover of Lifetime's "Rodeo Clown" and a DVD. Juno Awards nominated Silverstein as “Best New Band” category.

Silverstein released a new album, "Arrivals and Departures" in July 2007 and their future plans include touring Australia in early 2008.
