Brandon was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He began playing guitar and writing songs as the young age of 13. He was inspired by songwriters such as Shawn Colvin, David Wilcox, and Sting. He enjoyed visiting the Bluebird Café in Nashville, from not only the music but also the great camaraderie he saw among the songwriters.
In addition, while he was a teenager, Brandon was invited to attend a Christian youth camp. Even though he had not grown up in the Christian faith, he agreed to attend the camp because he had always had the desire to attend camp. His own words say it all, "I heard about Jesus for the first time," he explains. "It was Young Life that showed me Christ and got me plugged in to a church."
He went on to become a youth leader for the organization called Young Life. As he surrounded his life with God, he faith grew along with his music which he began noticing was reflecting in the songs he was writing.
While his years in college, Brandon became close friends and found songwriting partners such as Bebo Norman, Matt Wertz, Chad Cates, Philip LaRue, Dave Barnes, and Ben Glover. This is when he found the camaraderie that he had longed for after he was surrounded with it at the Bluebird Cafe.
He began to write songs for other artists such as Norman, Joy Williams, and Christopher Williams.
