Natalie Renee McIntyre was born on September 6, 1967 in Canton, Ohio. Today she is known as Macy Gray, Grammy award winning R&B singer. She decided to go into music and at first, she only wrote songs for other artists to perform. Then one day one of the vocalists did not show up and she found herself recording the songs she had written. She did not like her own voice but it was getting a lot of attention around the jazz circuit. To her surprise, Atlantic records signed her to their label. She gave them her demo a few months later; however, they were not satisfied with the demo so she returned home to Canton. She was also going through a divorce and also expecting her third child. Her demo tape was still making the rounds and in 1998, she got a deal with Epic records.

During 1998, Macy worked on her album and released it in 1999. "On How Life Is" became a huge success. It went to 3 times platinum and she won a Grammy award in 2001 for best female Pop Vocal Performance.

Next, she did a song with Fatboy Slim, the Black Eyed Pease, and Slick Rick for the soundtrack for "Rush Hour 2". She even tried out acting for the very first time in "Training Day."

Her next album, "ID" was a failure in the United States; however, it went to #1 in the UK and was certified gold. In 2002, she appeared in "Spiderman" as herself then went on to release, "The Trouble with being Myself" in 2003, again a hit in the UK but not the US.

While performing in Barbados in 2007, she was kicked off the stage for profanity. At the time, Macy did not know the language she used was illegal there. She gave a public apology to stay out of jail. In March, of the same year she released her fourth album, "Big". This album is more or less a comeback album for Macy, after she took a four-year furlough. Critics say this is her best work yet. It debuted at #39 and it is her highest chart recording since 2001. Watch for what she has planned for the future, she may surprise everyone.
