
Popular rapper Baby Boy was born Laywrence Cennett inn 1986 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is usually referred by biographers as Baby Boy Da Prince to differentiate him from the movie of the same name.
Nonetheless, Baby Boy got his name from manager Melvin and "Da Prince" is more likely the addition to his name that Laywrence gave himself. Following the steps of his brother Darwin Turner, the popular rapper "Choppa", Baby Boy discovered soon that music was in his veins.
Baby Boy Da Prince began his career in 2002 at the age of 16 in New Orleans after signing to No Limit Records. Two years later, in 2004, Baby Boy signed with Bosshogg Entertainment, a local entertainment company that dealt with Extreme Entertainment to introduce Baby based on the popularity of his brother Choppa, but with no major success.
Baby Boy went on tour during 2005 opening for Paul Wall, 50 Cent, and Juvenile which helped him achieve achieving fame outside his hometown. That same year Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and Baby Boy witnessed all the mess that nature left behind.
Forced to live in a trailer for the next few months after the disaster, Baby Boy Da Prince wrote the songs to record his debut album post hurricane. "Across the Water" was released on 2006 and the single "The Way I Live" was aired through Q93 (WQUE) radio.
Three weeks later the song became a number one recording attracting the interest of Universal Republic Records that signed Baby Boy Da Prince as the label's premiere Hip Hop show.
Although, Baby's success impacted all of New Orleans, his fame was soon seen in his own community as soon as the album was released to all radio station on September 2006 featuring the singles "Naw Meen" and "The Way I Live- Saints Remix", a remix that was available for free download through local radio station B97 (WEZB) website.
Baby Boy Da Prince hit the Billboard charts in 2007 with "Across the Water" at number 14 in the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums category and number 6 in the Top Rap Albums. Actually, at this time, Baby Boy is working on his second album, from which the single "It's My Time" has been already confirmed.
