There is a band from Chicago centered on the eye of a musical hurricane. This band is Disturbed, a band that fuses heavy metal, nu-metal, hard rock, and alternative metal. This is putting the critics in a huge debate to determine the musical genre they play, but fans that enjoy their music really do not care.
Disturbed was formerly made up of David Draiman (lead singer), Dan Donegan (guitars), John Moyer (bass), and Mike Wengren (drums). David Draiman was raised amidst a religious family, but his rebel conduct forced him to leave five boarding schools. Dan Donegan and Mike Wengfren were long time friends playing along the Chicago's small clubs circuit with John Moyer before teaming up to create Disturbed in 1996.
During the late 1990s, Disturbed recorded "Stupify" and "Perfect Insanity" which was a couple of demo Eps used as an introduction in the quest of finding a recording company. Lining up their way with "Stupify", the band signed in 1999 with Giant Records, which released their debut album, "The Sickness" in March 2000.
In 2001, Disturbed was invited to play the main stage of Ozzy Osbourne's 2001 Ozzfest tour alongside fellow musicians such as Papa Roach, Crazy Town, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson and legendary Black Sabbath. With this tour, the band gained both exposure and fans so they broke away to start their own nationwide tour, "Music as a Weapon".
Although, Disturbed recorded a vicious version of wrestler Steve Austin's theme song and was announced to work on the tribute album "Faith no More", the band returned to the recording studio until the end of their tour working on an experimental album that could compare their musical work with established heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Soundgarden and Pantera.
The result was "Believe", and album produced by Johnny K, mixed by Andy Wallace, which was released in autumn 2002, and reaching the top of the Billboard Charts. In 2004, "Music as a Weapon II", the tour document, was made available. John Moyer left Disturbed in 2005 and Fuzz (Steve Kmak) took his place for the releasing of a new album, "Ten Thousand Fists". Disturbed continues touring extensively and preparing their fourth studio album to be released in the United States in early 2008.
