underoath

UnderOATH is a stylization of the Christian Metalcore band's name Underoath, formed in 1998 in Ocala, Florida while guitarist Luke Morton was in vocalist Dallas Taylor's bedroom crafting the band's name.

Since then, Morton and Taylor began rehearsing, but soon they discovered the need for a drummer. Inviting Aaron Gillespie, a friend from the church, the trio began to play as UnderOATH in local festivals and touring around Florida.

In 1999 UnderOATH signed to Takehold Records for the releasing of their debut album "Act of Depression", which basically was a six-songs EP, which sold over 2,000 copies.

The following year a new EP was released with five cuts including "Cries of the Past". this EP sold more than 3,000 copies, even though these recordings were considered more likely experimental and far from what UnderOATH is today as a band.

Nowadays, both of those early recordings are out of print and are some of the most sought-after items of any UnderOATH's fan. Featuring a not so heavy music and continuous lineup changes, UnderOATH evolved from metalcore to a dynamic rock band in the following releases.

"The Changing of Times" marked the changes of the band in 2002. This full-length album was released under the Seattle's Tooth & Nail/Solid State label after receiving the license from the former band's recording label, Takehold Records.
,br> Following the releasing of the album, UnderOATH went on tour and continued promoting "The Changing of Times" until Dallas Taylor left the band with no explanation in the middle of the 2003's Warped Tour. The band quickly enrolled vocalist Spencer Chamberlain and continued with their scheduled tours for the rest of the year.

The band returned to the studio in 2004 for the release of a new album, "They're Only Chasing Safety", followed by "Define The Great Line" in 2006 and their most recently recording "777" released on DVD during the summer of 2007.

These albums are meaningful in UnderOATH's discography because they helped the band to breakthrough into the mainstream consolidating a style and keeping their lineup stable in recent years, at the time that sales of their records and popularity increased, especially after the airplay of the band's videos through Fuse and MTV.
