Seether is a representative South African post-grunge band from Pretoria, Gauteng that originally was named Saron Gas with strong roots in alternative metal. Saron Gas was formed in early 2000 and that same year released their debut album, "Fragile", after signing to Musketeer Records, an African-based records label.
From 2000 to 2002, Seether performed as Saron Gass playing in local venues, nightclubs, private parties, and University concerts including the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Cape Town.
"Fragile" hit the South African music charts and caught the attention of Wind-up Records, that signed the Saron Gas asking for the band to change their name. The members chose Seether, a name inspired by a Veruca Salt's single.
Seether continued developing their characteristic melodic heavy metal and recorded a new album in 2002, "Disclaimer" from which three singles were released; "Driven Under", "Gasoline", and "Fine Again", this last one was the only one to hit the charts.
Later that year, Seether received a spot playing at the Ozzy Osbourne's 2002 Ozzfest and eventually the album "Disclaimer" went gold landing number 92 on the Billboard US chart.
When Seether was ready to get back to the studio for the release of their following album, they were asked to go on a worldwide tour supporting Evanescence in 2003 so the album was postponed for the next year.
During the tour, Seether reworked the ballad "Broken" that was included in the soundtrack for the 2004 film "The Punisher" and was intended for the band to breakthrough into the mainstream in America, Great Britain, and Australia.
In 2004 the album "Disclaimer" was re-released as "Disclaimer II" with all of the songs reworked or remixed, plus the addition of eight new tracks that won Seether the RIAA Platinum certification and hit number 8 on the Billboard chart.
Consolidating their place in the music scene of America, Seether released the albums "Karma and Effect" (2005), "One Cold Night" (2006) and continue touring exhaustively.
"One Cold Night" was an acoustic CD/DVD set recorded on Grape Street in Philadelphia for Wind-up Records. Although guitarist Pat Callahan left the band during 2006 for an unknown reason, Seether went back to the studio in 2007 for the releasing of "Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces", their most recent work.
