Toby Keith was born on July 8, 1961 given the name of Toby Keith Covel. Toby Keith has become one of America's favorite country singer.

Toby was born in Clinton, Oklahoma and then moved on to Moore, Oklahoma where his grandmother owned a supper club. Toby loved to go there and see all the musicians come and play. He received his very own guitar when he was 8 so he started to play like the musicians who came into grandma's club.

Toby went to Moore High School and after graduation; he started in the oil fields like many other young men. Still loving his music he started a band called "Easy Money" and performed around town, however, at times he would have to leave right in the middle of singing to get back to the oil field. In 1982, the oil industry started to decline so Toby decided to play a bit of football and joined The Driller's. After two years, he decided to work with his music full time without much approval from family and friends who feared he would not make it.

In 1984, his first song, Blue Moon, started to get airtime on the radio. He met his wife, Tricia Zinter, so 1984 was a good year for Toby.

In 1993, he went to Nashville and started to hand out his demo to many record labels without much victory. He started to feel like a failure because he promised himself if he did not have a recording contract by the time, he was 30 he would give up his dream. 30 has come and gone and still no contract.

Toby's luck held out when a friend of his which was a flight attendant gave one of his demo's to Harold Shedd, Mercury Record executive on one of her flights. He liked the demo so he headed to one of the clubs where Toby was performing. He liked what he saw and signed him to a record deal. His debut single, "Should've Been A Cowboy" was born and boomed to number 1 in record time. He then made a self-titled album, which went certified platinum. Toby Keith Country Singer has been born!
