paul wall

Paul Gideon Manry was born on March 11, 1981 in Georgetown, Texas. Paul Wall is a multi-facet man performing as a DJ and rapper, but also a talented manager and renowned jeweler. He joined his childhood's rapper friend Hakeem Seriki (Chamillionaire) and together began to play music in 1998 with "The Sleepwalkers", a gospel rap group based in Houston.

Although "The Sleepwalkers" played mostly at church gatherings and religious youth festivals, this early incursion in music let Paul approach to DJ Michael 5000 Watts after a promotional event in Texas. Eventually, Paul Wall and Chamillionaire began to promote Swishahouse, Watt's mixtape company in exchange for allowing them to freestyle on his intro to the radio show broadcast through "The Box", Houston’s 97.9.

Succeeding with the freestyle, Paul Wall and fellow partner Chamillionaire gained their permanent membership on Swishahouse and began to appear on several of Michael's mixtapes and across Houston mixtape circuit. However, this increasing popularity was not associated accordingly with money, and the lack of this caused frustration among numerous DJ’s.

Paul and Chamillionaire gave a new direction to their musical ambitions and created a band named "Color Changin' Click" that brought them new opportunities with mixtape after mixtape, including the recording of an album under the Paid in Full Records label. Now, under the stage name of CCC "Get Ya Mind Correct" was released.

With over 100,000 copies sold Paul Wall's CCC album is nowadays considered one of the most representative southern albums recorded in recent years. The name of Paul Wall will continue being associate to Chamillionaire and people from the Houston's mixtapes circuit, going from Swishahouse Records to Paid in Full Records and then from Atlantic to Asylum Records.

From 2003 to 2006, Paul Wall worked on numerous official screwed and chopped projects with fellow DJ’s and, of course, Chamillionaire. A soloist, his debut album came in 2004 with "Chick Magnet", a hip-hop album followed by "The Peoples Champ" (2005) and "Get Money, Stay True" (2007).
