mickey avalon

Born Yeshe Perl on December 3, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, Mickey Avalon is a popular rap artist whose paternal grandparents are Holocaust survivors imprisoned at Auschwitz, Germany.

During his childhood and teen years, Mickey had to survive selling pot along with his mother and later suffering from heroin and dope addiction before being converted to Orthodox Judaism.

Mickey Avalon worked as a graffiti artist before thinking of becoming a superstar. When everything seemed to be right, he married, had a daughter but then he had to prostitute himself for drug money.

If that was not enough to discourage him, he watched his parents involved in drugs, how his father died and suffered the finding of his sister's dead body, all of them painful circumstances that Mickey Avalon endured.

However, all these chains of hurting events contributed to finding himself through music and his self-title debut album was released in November 2006 on Interscope/Shoot to Kill Records in association with MySpace Records.

Contrary to any expectation, Mickey Avalon's rap is a blended hip-hop with dark but humorous lyrical beats and hooks that frequently talk about the era of prostitution and substance abuse.

Mickey's lucky star shined when his friend Simon Rex encouraged him to write his own songs based on his experiences. Rex was the former MTV VJ and this contributed to the introduction of Mickey Avalon into music.

Simon Rex, whose rapper name is Dirt Nasty, began to sing Mickey's songs and shared them with Armen Melik, better known as Andre Legacy. Together with Mickey Avalon recorded as the Dyslexic Speedreaders, an irreverent and satirical band that played at the L.A. club and drug culture circuits.

On stage, Mickey Avalon developed an ambiguous sexuality that often recalls the era of the Glam rockers of the 1970’s. It was during those early presentations that DJ Kev-E-Kev approached Mickey and recorded his debut album, from which the song "Jane Fonda" introduced Mickey Avalon to TV doing a guest appearance on Entourage's HBO series.
