lupe fiasco

Born on Chicago, Illinois in February 17, 1982, Wasalu Mahammad Jaco is one of the newest rappers on the American music scene best known as Lupe Fiasco. Wasalu made up his artistic name taking his own nickname "Lu" and the name of a high school friend called Lupe, but needing a surname he chose "Fiasco" from a hip-hop song recorded by The Firm in 1997.

Lupe begin to rap while in high school, but it was not until 1996 when he began to take his music career seriously at age 17, inspired by "It was written" a Nas' album recorded in 1996. Two years later Lupe Fiasco's joined "Da Park", a Chicago hip-hop band who recorded one single under Epic Records.

After "Da Park" was disbanded, Lupe Fiasco signed with Arista Records as a soloist and releasing one song on a MTV's compilation along with guest appearances on a few singles recorded by "Tha' Rayne" and "K Fox". He was eventually dropped after L.A. Reid, CEO and President of the company, was fired.

The permanence of Lupe Fiasco as an Arista artist allowed him to release several mix tapes forging at a time an identity as "a hero of the nerd and middle class", as he called himself. By the turn of 2006, and now signed by Atlantic Records, Lupe was invited to start a college show with fellow friend Bishop G Dunbar.

FNF Radio was broadcast from Illinois Institute of Technology's College Station and was reporting a nightly audience of approximately 6,000 listeners. This was the beginning of an increasing number of Lupe Fiasco fans spreading throughout the Internet. Of course, FNF radio was a show powered by hip-hop music, a public contest, and live discussions on hot topics such as sports, politics, music, and entertainment.

Lupe Fiasco recorded his first album "Food & Liquor" early that year, but it was not released until September 2006. This album received three Grammy Awards nominations. This along with Lupe's 2007 albums "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool" and an untitled release featuring Pharrell and Kanye West, confirm that his popularity is just now on the rise. In addition, he is also promoting his "street wear" culture and Islamic Faith among his fans.
