The internationally known operatic pop vocal group that Simon Cowell created is called Il Divo. The group is made up of four singers who are Carlos Marin, Urs Buehler, David Miller, and Sebastian Izambard. Simon's idea for creating the group came after listening to Andrea Boselli and Sarah Brightman's rendition of Con te partiro. He wanted to form a quartet that sounded like the three tenors and look like Armani models. The search for these four singers lasted two years when the fourth member was finally signed. This quartet sings in English, Italian, Spanish, French, and Latin.
EL Divo just completed a six-month world that included the USA, Australia, and Europe. After the tour, they were invited to be special guests to perform 20 concerts with Barbra Streisand. This tour ranks second of all tours in 2006 and generated gross sales of $92.5 million dollars. They performed the official song of the 2006 FIFA world cup, "Time of Our Lives" with Toni Braxton live during halftime of the June 9 kickoff match and the July 9 closing ceremony proceeding Shakira.
Il Divo is in the Guinness book of world records 2006 for the Most Multi-national UK number one album group.Their recordings include their self-titled album, which hit the number one spot on both Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com after their breakout appearance on Oprah on April 5, 2005. Their second album titled AnCora was released on November 7, 2005 in the UK it went to number one in the UK and Australia within one week. It was then released in the United States on January 24, 2006; it entered on the billboard charts at number one and sold more than 150,000 copies during its first week. Their third album titled, "Voices" was recorded with various artists for the FIFA World Cup 2006, it went number one in Germany. Their fourth album titled, "Siempre" was released November 21, 2006 in the U.S. After about a week, they released into the rest of the world. Within three weeks, it was rated number one on United World Chart beating out the Beatles, Eminem, and U2 selling 472,000 copies.
