Buckcherry is a Los Angeles hard rock band that claims to have taken their name from a Hollywood transvestite (Buck Cherry), however; insistent rumors say that the band was named after Chuck Berry.
The fact is that Josh Todd (singer) and Keith Nelson (guitars) met each other through their tattoo artist, and then formed a duo that began to record some demos before Jonathan "J.B." Brightman (bass) and Devon Glenn (drums) joined them in mid-1995.
Inspired by AC/DC, Buckcherry began performing live in the Los Angeles club scene developing their own identity playing sleazy rock, a musical genre influenced by jazz, punk, and glam rock. During this time, they added guitarist Yogi as a new member to the band.
Buckcherry signed to Dream Work Records that released their debut album, "Buckcherry" in 2000, from which the singles "For the Movies", "Lit up", and "Check your Head" catapulted the group's popularity with gold sales after these songs became modern rock hits.
By 2001, a new album would be released, "Time Bomb", the biggest achievement of Buckcherry was opening for AC/DC in several tour dates during that year. Rising fame did not stop Joshua Todd, who left Buckcherry in July 2002, which left a huge gap in the band for 3 years.
Josh Todd and Keith performed together with ex-Guns N' Roses members at the Randy Castillo tribute concert. Todd also released the album "You Made Me", but late in 2004, he had to file a lawsuit to obtain exclusive rights over Buckcherry's name and released himself from exclusive recording contractual obligations.
With a pending litigation, Buckcherry was regrouped in 2005 with Josh Todd, Keith Nelson, Steven Dacanay (guitars), and Xavier Muriel (drums). A new album called "15" was released in April 2006 followed by a scandal in September of that same year.
A lawsuit was filed, but against the band on behalf of a teenager that was supposedly force to appear topless at several scenarios of Buckcherry's concerts.
