chromeo

Chromeo is a Canadian an electrofunk duo formed in Montreal during the early 2000’s by Audio Research CEOs David Macklovitch (guitar & lead vocals) and Patrick Gemayel (P-Thugg), who is in charge of the synthesizers, on keyboards, and talk box, instruments that have contributed to classify the duo to as synth pop revisionists.

David and Patrick have been friends since childhood and often joke about themselves due to the excellent relationship between to fellows with Arabian and Jewish ancestry.

Actually the duo is based in Montreal and New York City because David Macklovitch is attending the Columbia University seeking to earn a PhD in French Literature at the time that he is teaching undergraduate French classes.

Chromeo debuted with the 12" Single "You're So Gangsta" released in 2002, that eventually would be included in their 2004 Indietronica debut album "She's in Control", featuring another single hit called "Needy Girl".

Both single songs achieved such popularity that they were used as musical background for the Heineken and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup commercials respectively.

"She's in Control" later produced other song hits for Chromeo, including "Rage!", "Mercury Tears" and "Destination: Overdrive". Heavily influenced by their own French Canadian roots, Chromeo recorded a funky dance mix CD that was released on Eskimo Belgium Records in 2005.

The mix was properly entitled "Un Joli Mix Pour Toi" ("A Pretty Mix For You"). Chromeo continued playing with synth musical experiments combined with college life so in 2006 the duo "Ce Soir, On Danse" ("A Night at the Dance") mixtape.

However, in early 2007 the duo released a new 12" single entitled "Fancy Footwork" and then was invited as the support act opening for Indie rock group Bloc Party during their UK tour.

In May 8, 2007, Chromeo released their second album "Fancy Footwork" with a remarkable dance pop influence. While "Fancy Footwork" cover artwork resembles and old Herbie Hancock's conceptual album, it contains 11 original Electronic funk tracks.

As of today, the album "She's in Control" is currently available for streaming download at Vice Records, and Chromeo has been named as Artist of the Week for October 1st 2007 by MTV.
