alanis morissette

Singer, songwriter, and record producer Alanis Nadine Morissette was born on June 1, 1974 in Ottawa Canada. Although, her debut in the music scene in the 1990’s was predicted with an improbable success, it resulted in a failed attempt due to procrastination.

Alanis Morissette began her career in childhood as an actress on the TV show "You Can't Do That". She learned to play piano and wrote a song called "Fate Stay with Me", recorded, and released in 1984.

Alanis performed on stage at the Orpheus Musical Theatre Society between 1985 and 1988, but turned to an alternative pop singer after graduating from high school and signing a music-publishing contract with MCA Records.

In 1991, Alanis Morissette's self-titled debut album was released only in Canada and, although this recording went platinum, her second album, "Now is the Time", released the following year was also geographically limited to her country.

Nonetheless, Alanis Morissette's singles peaked the Top 20-RPM singles charts, receiving airplay exposure through a large number of radio stations. Alanis, who dropped her surname after her first album, went on tour as the opening act for rapper Vanilla Ice.

In 1992, Alanis Morissette was nominated for three Juno Awards and won one of them as the Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year. With no hope to succeed outside the Canadian frontier, Alanis relocated to Los Angeles and met Michael Jackson's producer Glen Ballard in early 1994.

Ballard produced the third attempt of Alanis to breakthrough into the mainstream, "Jagged Little Pill", an album released in the summer of 2005 on Madonna's label, Maverick Records, that brought for the singer the long time awaited international success.

In 1996 MTV, Juno, and the Grammy Awards nominated Alanis Morissette for at least 19 different awards, in which she won many of them. Alanis’ skyrocket popularity was forged throughout the following years as new albums were released.

During 2007, Alanis recorded a parody and the video was released by YouTube while she was touring across the United States and Canada. She has been also working on the release of a new album according to her MySpace web site, but there is no scheduled releasing date as of today.
