Considered as the first Third World superstar, Robert Nesta Marley was born on February 6 of 1945 in Nine Mile, a small village situated in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica. Fighting against racial prejudices Bob Marley moved to Kingston, to play music along with Neville “Bunny†Livingston at age 14.
After abandoning school, Bob played regularly with musicians such as Peter Tosh, Rastafari, and Joe Higss and in 1962; Leslie Kong produced the first two singles ever recorded.
During the following years, Bob Marley’s musician career was closely tied to his former friends that left the jam sessions forming “The Teenagersâ€, a Reggae band that eventually changed their name to “The Wailers.â€
Bob and his band hit the Jamaican Charts in 1964 with their first single “Simmer Downâ€. Although, The Wailers were considered one of the hottest groups in Jamaica, Bob Marley left the band after his marriage in 1966 and moved to Delaware, in the United States where his mother was now living.
Eventually, Bob Marley returned to Jamaica with The Wailers and joined the Rastafari movement as a visionary who was considered a Rasta prophet after creating his own dreadlocks trademark in a mix of religion and cannabis, his Sacred Sacrament.
After a failed attempt to team his band with the studio band The Upsetters, Bob Marley, and his wife Rita continued working with The Wailers from 1968 to 1974 when the band finally broke up.
The first album of Bob Marley and The Wailers was recorded in Kingston and London under the JAD recordings label. This album was noticed worldwide in 1973 achieving moderate success.
In 1974, the album “Burning†gave Bob Marley his first international musical recognition when Eric Clapton recorded the cover of “I Shot the Sheriffâ€, a song that was included in this album.
Between 1975 and 1976, Bob Marley hit the Billboard chart several times and then moved to London, England, but returned to Jamaica in 1978 to perform in a political concert.
Bob Marley was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in 1977 and died on May 11, 1981 fighting for his life in a hospital in Miami, Florida.
