Ashlee Nicole Simpson was born October 3, 1984 in Waco, Texas. She is also the sister of singer, Jessica Simpson. Ashlee studied ballet and went to the School of American Ballet in New York at the age of 11 and at that time, she suffered from an eating disorder in which she lost 70 pounds. Ashlee's parents worked with her to get her to begin eating again and realize that she had problems. With her parents help she begin to improve. She went on to be a back up dancer for her sister, Jessica when her first album was released.
Ashlee had the desire to try acting, and that is just what she focused on until she found a few parts that wanted to do. She was in Malcolm in the Middle in 2001 and a tiny role in The Hot Chick prior to landing the recurring role on 7th Heaven. She made a few appearances on Jessica's reality show. After this, she had her own reality TV show by the name of The Ashlee Simpson Show, which aired for two seasons. The song, "Just Let Me Cry", on the soundtrack for Freaky Friday was sung by Ashlee. She released her first album, "Autobiography" in 2004 that went to #1 and sold over 300,000 copies. It went to triple platinum in September 2004.
Fans of Saturday Night Live may remember Ashlee performing on the show. This is when quite a bit of controversy began. Ashlee sang her first song, Pieces of Me", however, before she was ready for the second song, Autobiography, the song started playing with her voice being heard singing the song. Ashlee ran off the stage in tears. Because of this incident, many of her fans believed she never sang at all and was only lip-syncing.
When she first started her career, she was a lot like her sister Jessica, both blondes. She wanted to show they were different so she dyed her hair dark after she finished the 7th heaven season. After a year, she went back to blonde. She is total opposite of Jessica in many ways. She has a rock sound to her music; she usually has her nails, and toenails painted black and has three tattoos.
