Survivor is a reality television show, in which contestants are placed isolated in remote location throughout the world and compete for cash and various prizes.
Survivor is considered the mother of American reality television since it was the first high rated and profitable reality show broadcast in the United States. The television show first aired on May 31, 2000 and is still going strong. Its popularity has increased so fast and so far, that it even has its own reality coaster at Paramount's Great America in Santa Clara, CA, called Survivor: The Ride!
The game plays out with 16 contestants placed in a remote location, divided up into two, three or four equally sized teams called tribes. Each tribe is given a minimal number of tools to survive while also competing against each other in competitions called Challenges. At the end of each week, Tribal Council is held whereas the tribemates vote one person out of their tribe. The player chosen as Sole Survivor receives a cash prize of $1,000,000 along with other prizes.
Survivor was created by Charlie Parsons and stars Jeff Probst as host on CBS. During the 14 seasons, Survivor has had 212 episodes from its beginning on May 31, 2000.
