the black eyed peas

Three times Grammy award winning hip-hop group The Black Eyed Peas started in 1988 when Will I am and Apl.de.ap started rapping together in Los Angeles. they signed with Ruthless records that were run by Eazy-E. At this time, they called themselves Atban Klann. Their record Grass Roots was never released. Eazy-E died in 1995; of an Aids related illness after this, they renamed their group, The Black Eyed peas. They replaced their third member with Taboo. They always chose to perform with a live band and dressed different from the gangsta rap sound.

They released their debut album under the record label Interscope records and it was called "Behind the Front" in 1998. This made them very popular and received a lot of attention. Their second album came out in 2000 and it was called "2000's Bridging the Gap."

However, it was their breakout album; "Elephunk" in 2003 that featured Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson that many say is what made them so popular. They started to release more singles and were on top of the pop charts. Even in the UK, they were #1 with "Elephunk". It also went to #1 in Australia. "Elephunk" went gold and platinum in the US, UK, Germany, and other European markets for the Black Eyed Peas.

Their song, "Let's get retarded" was restyled and called, "Let's Get It Started" for the National Basketball Association Finals worldwide commercial. It was a featured song on the soundtrack for Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle and The Black Eyed Peas were also featured in the video game, "The Urbz: Sims in the City" as characters. They re-recorded their songs, "Let's get It Started" and "Shut Up" in "SIMLISH" the language used by The Sims.

Their next album titled "Monkey Business" was released in July of 2005. The first single off the album, "Don't Funk With My Heart" was a huge hit and reached #3 on Billboard Hot 100. It also earned them another Grammy. "My Humps" also went to #3 with a huge following even though it had sexually suggestive lyrics.
