flyleaf

Flyleaf is an alternative metal heavy rock band formed in 2000 in Belton, Texas by Lacey Mosley, a girl who had written a few songs and was trying to put together a band after playing for some time with drummer James Culpepper.

Playing small gigs, Lacey and James found guitarists Jared Hartmann and Sameer Bhattacharya to start plotting Flyleaf story on the music scene, initially naming their group Passerby.

The band released three EPs and played nearly 100 shows all over Texas before bassist Pat Seals joined them. From 2002 to 2004, and after winning at the annual South by Southwest music conference, Passerby released the albums "Broken Wings: Special Edition" (2002), "Passerby" (2003), and "Broken Wings" (2004 re-release).

Passerby was invited to play with Fishbone, Bowling for Soup, and Riddlin' Kids, but eventually needed a stable record label. The band headed to New York's RCA, playing a showcase for the president. However, the band was put on hold and the Octone Records took advantage of the situation and signed the band.

In 2005, Flyleaf left behind Passerby and began recording their self-titled debut full-length album, produced by Howard Benson and released on Octone Records, after which the band played around Texas before going on nationwide tour.

The release of Flyleaf next album was possible after J Records gave them an exclusive contract negotiating with RCA, and Octone Records, and including SRE Recordings for the band's distribution on Christian Markets.

During 2006, Flyleaf played on the mainstage at the Family Values Tour 2006. Flyleaf also toured with Stone Sour, Nonpoint on the Music, and Disturbed in the "As A Weapon III" Tour, in which an EP with the same name was sold featuring an acoustic version of Flyleaf's "Fully Alive" plus three unreleased tracks: "Justice And Mercy", "Much Like Falling”, and "Christmas Song".

Although most fans are waiting for Flyleaf's forthcoming album, the band has spent 2007 touring throughout the United States and Australia before joining again to the Family Values Tour in 2007, tour in which Flyleaf played "Cassie", a Lacey Mosley's song that reflects her view on the Columbine High School massacre in 1999.
