Australian pop band The Bee Gees was formed in 1958 in Brisbane, Australia, formed by a trio of brothers who were born in the Isle of Man.
Sons to English parents Hugh Gibb, a bandleader, and his former singer wife Barbara that eventually returned to their hometown in Manchester in the early 1950’s were parents to the trio of brothers.
The Bee Gees began their music career at a very young age with older brother Barry Gibb teaching his twin brothers Robin and Maurice and then going to sing between shows at Gaumont Cinema in 1955.
His father often compared his sons to the Mills Brothers, a black American harmony group of the late 1930’s. The boys were not serious about their music until their act was so successful that they began a professional musical career singing under different stage names such as the Rattlesnakes and later Wee Johnny Hayes & the Blue Cats.
The family Gibb immigrated to Queensland, Australia after the youngest of the brothers (Andy) was born in 1958 and then relocating again to Brisbane. In Australia, the trio changed their name to the Brothers Gibb, continued performing at talent shows until opportunity came by the way of DJ Bill Gates (not to be confused with Microsoft's founder).
Gates renamed the trio The Bee Gees and overtime the brothers got their own local TV show before their debut album was released on Australian's Festival Records.
The Bee Gees continued with their presentations at resorts alongside the Queensland’s Gold coast and recording new singles. However, The Bee Gees family returned to Manchester in late 1966 leaving behind a song that topped number one in Australia.
Although Barry, Robin, and Maurice kept recording and performing local gigs, their breakthrough into the mainstream was marked by the international hit "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" released in 1971. This early hit was only surpassed by the massive success achieved during the disco fever after The Bee Gees participated in with the release of “Saturday Night Fever" in late 1977.
For decades the Bee Gees placed hit after hit on the worldwide charts and although they were about to disband after the untimely death of their younger brother Andy in 1988 The Bee Gees came to an end when Maurice died in 2003.
