Joscelyn Eve Stoker was born in Dover, Kent, England on April 11, 1987. This R&B and blues singer is better known as Joss Stone. To date she has sold over 9,000,000 albums worldwide. Joss grew up listening to R&B and soul music with such artists as Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin, which gave her the soulful style of her idols. In 2001, when she was 14, she appeared on a talent show called star for a night in which she sang Donna Summer's "On the Radio."
In 2002, she decided to try out for an audition in New York City with the S Curve Ceo Steve Greenberg. At that time, she signed on with BMG music out of the UK. She has performed with Blondie and Gladys Knight. On September 16, 2003, she released her debut album "The Soul Sessions". On the billboard 200 chart, her album made the top 40 and it was in the top five on the UK albums chart. She released two singles from the album, the first one, "Fell in Love with the Boy", and the second one "Super Duper Love". Both of them reached the top 20 on the UK singles chart. To top it off, it was nominated for The Mercury Prize in 2004.
She released her second album on September 28, 2004 titled, "Mind Body and Soul". This album was even a bigger success than her first one debuting in the UK and became number one. She beat out Avril Lavigne's record for being the youngest female ever to top the UK albums chart. The singles from the album were, "You had Me", "Right to be Wrong", "Spoiled" and "Don't Cha Want a Ride". They all made the top 40 except for "Don't Cha Want a Ride" which was in the top 20. In May 2006, she started working and her third studio album titled, "Introducing Joss Stone". Lauryn Hill, Novel, and Common worked along side her. She said this album was truly her.
