Post-hardcore band Thrice was formed in 1998 in Irvine, California by Dustin Kensrue and Teppei Teranishi, who met each other while attending high school, inviting their skate park friend Eddie Breckenridge, who at the time brought his brother Riley to the band.

Like any other band, they spent some time practicing and playing local gigs before they formally began their musical career, at the time that they began to write their own songs by the end of 1999.

Thrice self-released their own debut album "Identity Crisis" produced by Paul Miner and including 12 tracks featuring alternative and experimental rock.

Although, the album did not achieve a huge success, Thrice brought public attention after they donated a portion of their album profits to Crittenton Services for Children and Families, a local Californian charity. From then on, they would continue donating their albums’ sales proceeds to non-profit and charitable organizations.

Thrice increased their activity playing gigs to support their album, from which they got a record deal with Posen, a subsidiary label of Hopeless/Sub City Records.

Posen re-released the album "Identity Crisis" and programmed the band for a tour with Samiam, a San Francisco's punk band. Thrice continued touring with Midtown and Hot Rod Circuit before going back to the studio.

Thrice recorded "The Illusion of Safety" produced by Brian McTernan and released in early 2002, but the band' stay in Posen's catalog was just that, an illusory sense of safety after the band was dropped out.

Thrice donated a portion of the album profits to A Place Called Home, a youth shelter in Los Angeles, which donation was matched by Posen.

Thrice continued with their scheduled tours supporting Face to Face and Further Seems Forever and going into the Warped Tour before signing to Island Records and at the end the year touring with Hot Water Music and Coheed & Cambria.

In February 2003, Brian McTernan was called to produce Thrice's new album "The Artist in the Ambulance" released in 2003, breaking into the mainstream and getting the band their first European tour.

As of 2007, Thrice has released another two albums, "Vheissu" in 2005 and "The Alchemy Index Vols. I & II" in 2007, which consists of a series of 4 EP’s, probably inspired by Coheed & Cambria, which volumes III & IV are scheduled to be released in the spring of 2008.
