janet jackson

Janet Damita Jo Jackson was born on May 16, 1966 in Gary, Indiana and although she is a popular singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, record producer, dancer, and activist, she is mostly recognized as Michael Jackson's youngest sister, even though she has her own talents and successes on her own.

During her early years, Janet's brothers performed as The Jackson 5 achieving great success that allowed the entire family to move to Los Angeles, California in 1971.

Janet Jackson first performance occurred on stage by the side of the Jackson 5 when she was only seven years old. At age 10, Janet was turned into actress after producer Norman Lear selected her in 1977 to join the cast of the "Good Times". From then until 1982, she remained more involved in acting than singing, including popular TV shows such as “A New Kind of Family" and the worldwide popular "Different Strokes" series.

In 1982, Janet Jackson's debut album was released by A&M records after her father pushed her into tapping into a singing career. The album made little noise and she returned to acting on the cast of "Fame" (the musical series) in 1983. This same year a new album, "Dream Street" was released with less success than its predecessor was.

At age 18, Janet Jackson rebelled against her parents' oppression and married singer James DeBarge, another failed venture on Janet's life that forced her to return to her parent's home and get her marriage annulled.

After losing weight and receiving dance training, Janet Jackson released the new album "Control", produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis released in 1986. This album peaked on the Top Five, sold over 5 million copies in a short time, meaning the start of a successful career that eventually would place Janet as a pop icon.

As a singer, Janet Jackson has produced a discography that encompasses nine studio albums within 1983 and 2006, with the release of her new album announced to be released in 2008. Janet also became a Guinness Book World Record as the "Most Searched for News Item" and the "Most Searched in Internet History" in 2006.
