Rodney Atkins was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 28, 1967. He was a very special child because his parents picked him out of many others. They adopted him! Prior to this, two families that had adopted him and brought him back because he was a sickly child. Third time is the charm they say and his third chance was from a mother who would not give up on him even though he was ill.
He worked his way through school and played in Nashville to make a little cash and become known. His career was not successful right away like he would have wanted but it finally happened in 2006 when he released his first #1 hit, "If You're Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows)". Then he followed up with that with another #1 hit, "Watching You". His 5 year old son, Elijah, who is featured in the video, is his only living blood relative.
His fans love him since they can tell by his gaze that he leaves theirs that he is listening, he his honest, and would always stay a true friend. He knows when he writes his songs, that there is something to them that touches people. He noticed when he sang "Honesty" one night that a couple in the audience had tears running down their faces and when the show was over the man came to his tour bus and asked him for a copy of the lyrics to give to his wife when he asked her to reconcile with him. That is what makes him write songs from the heart! He has a few ideas on a song about his son, but nothing is out where we can see it, but of course, we will wait patiently for his next #1 song that will touch our souls.
