The Beach Boys are an American rock and roll band that gave the American youth a new sound with lyrics that reflected the California youth culture of the 1960’s formed in 1961.
In the beginning, the Beach Boy members included Brian Wilson (singer, composer), his brothers Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Throughout the generations, the Beach Boys have been known as the “America’s Band†and have 36 top 40 hits in the United States and four number one singles attributed to their achievements. The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
Changes were seen for various reasons within the group such as Brian Wilson leaving the group due to drug abuse and mental illness, the deaths of Carl Wilson in 1998 and Dennis Wilson in 1983. Even legal problems plagued the Beach Boys. After the death of Carl, Al Jardine was fired by Mike Love. At that time, Love and Bruce Johnston leased the rights to the name and remained touring as the Beach Boys.

Along with being inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Beach Boys received several other awards including Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001, and Rolling Stone Magazine ranked the Beach Boys at number 12 on the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004.
