She started her career in school where she studied the violin before she become interested in singing. She then started singing at church and that is when she knew she realized she loved to sing.
She then went on and formed an all female indie group called Helen. Their group did many local gigs, but one of the girls became pregnant and they split up the group. Corrine Bailey Rae did not know what she was going to do next so she headed on to the University of Leeds. She got a job at a local jazz club and when nights were slow, she got up and sang with the band. She started loving the whole jazz music thing. This is when she began to consider pursuing her music career in that direction. Corrine met a saxophone player by the name of Jason Rae, whom she married at age 22.
Corinne Bailey Rae went on after a few years and started writing her own music. She started singing but did not get big break until 2005 when she released her first single "Like a Star" and then released her album in 2006 called "Corinne Bailey Rae".
