Celine Marie Claudette Dion was born on March 30, 1968 in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada. She is known for her accomplishments as a famous pop and rock singer/songwriter. At the center of her childhood was music as she along with her siblings often sang at her parents’ small piano bar, ‘Le Vieux Baril in Charlemagne.
Celine was not destined to live a normal teenager’s life. By the young age of 12, she became a star when her brother Jacques along with her mother helped her record her first song, “Ce n’etait qu un reveâ€. Jacques sent the recording to music manager Rene Angelil who loved her voice so much that he mortgaged his home to fund her first record, “La voix du bon Dieu†in 1981. This one record made Celine an immediate star all around Quebec.
In 1982, Celine Dion competed in the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo, Japan where she won the award for “Top Performer†and the gold medal for “Best Songâ€, Tellement j’ai d’amour pour toiâ€. Her popularity was now worldwide.
Her ambition was to become a star like Michael Jackson, which guided her toward learning English. She went to Ecole Berlitz School in 1989 to polish up her English. After this, she was headed for fame throughout the entire world.
