George Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on June 25, 1963 in East Finchley, a suburban development situated in North London. Son to Kyriacos Panayiotou, a Greek-Cypriot that moved to London and changed his name to Jack Panos in 1950 and Lesley Angold Harrison, a Londoner dancer from a wealthy Jewish family.

George spent his childhood in London until his family relocated to Radlett, a small town south of England. In 1974, George Michael formed the ska band "The Executive" with fellow friends Andrew Leaver, Andrew and Paul Ridgeley, and David Mortimer.

The Executive was a band that lasted for a few months before George Michael went to High School. In 1980, George Michael and band former friend Andrew Ridgeley teamed in a new project, a pop duo called Wham! that became a major worldwide success between 1981 and 1986.

Wham! achieved success after success with every new single supported by a video release in a time in which visual music was taking over a large number of radio listeners. "Wham Rap! (Enjoy What You Do?)", “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", "Freedom", "Last Christmas/Everything She Wants" all peaked the UK and US charts alike.

In 1985, George Michael added background vocals to Elton John and David Cassidy's albums and contributed with Band Aid, a group of musician joined to record the single "Do They Know It's Christmas".

At that time, George donated the profits from "Last Christmas/Everything She Wants" to the same charity cause and released his first solo effort, "Careless Whisper".

The success achieved by this single contributed to the breakup of Wham! officially announced the spring of 1986 after an historic final concert at Wembley Stadium.

Between 1987 and 2004, George Michael has released five studio albums, two live albums, and two hits compilations. Michael has also supported politic campaigns and raised big scandals after his relationship with male Brazilian dress designer Anselmo Feleppa was discovered.

In 2007, George Michael revealed in an interview that he kept his homosexuality unveiled to avoid a negative impact on his mother and announced his intentions to go on tour sometime this year.
