Underground hip-hop group Atmosphere is basically a duo formed in 1994 in Minneapolis, Minnesota by rappers Slug (Sean Daley) and Ant (Anthony Davis). Slug comes from a previous band called The Rhymesayers Collective that eventually was renamed Urban Atmosphere, while Ant was mainly a producer and frequent contributor to Slun's band.
Urban Atmosphere gained some underground notoriety with Slug DJing backstage while former members Spawn (Derek Turner) and Stress (Siddiq Ali) rapped lyrics. When Ant joined them, he was also backstage as DJ.
In the middle 1990’s Slug and Ant went their separate way while Spawn and Stress took different musical ways and the history of Atmosphere began to be written.
Atmosphere has recorded seven studio albums including "Lucy Ford EP's" (1997), "Overcast!" (1997), "God Loves Ugly" (2002), "Seven's Travels" (2003), and "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having" (2005).
The duo has also put together the EP’s, "Overcast! EP" (1997), "The Lucy EP" (2001), "Ford 1" (2001), and "Ford 2" (2001). In addition, Atmosphere also has two compilations EP’s and two instrumental albums, apart of ten Sad Clown Bad Dub series released from 1999 to 2007.
Atmosphere is also popular by the series of HeadShots cassette tapes released between 1993 and 1997 and the duo has produced albums for other artists under their own joint venture named Rhymesayers Entertainment: Atmosphere.
On stage, Slug and Ant each one has their very personal rapping style. Slug is introspective an emotionally personal, much like a storyteller narrating his own anecdotes. Ant is basically the DJ who mixes his rap now and then when the song requires it.
Atmosphere began their own "Pour Me Another" tour in 2005 with a live band featuring Nat Collis (guitar), Erick Anderson (keyboards), Brett Johnson (bass), and Brian McLeod (drums) in addition to Mr. Dibbs as touring DJ.
In 2007, Atmosphere is touring the country on their "Everybody Loves A Clown" tour, which is the supporting tour for the ten volumes of the short-release albums, 'Sad Clown, Bad Summer'. Currently, Atmosphere is working on their new album "When Life Gives You Lemons", scheduled to be released in early 2008.
