oasis

British rock band Oasis was formed in 1991 in Manchester, England while their members were at the Boardwalk nightclub, famous as a rehearsal studio owned by Colin Sinclair.

Oasis became famous for bringing back to the UK music scene the guitar pop that was popularized by The Beatles and the genre which typically peaked at the top ten charts in the late 1960’s.

The was initial lineup included fellow classmates Liam Gallagher (vocals), Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass), and Tony McCaroll (drums) who took an entire year for intensive rehearsing before starting their promotion.

Oasis was one of the bands that was first aired through BBC Radio 5, a radio BBC's radio station that operated from 1990 to 1993. After their radio session, other stations were interested to present Oasis on their radio shows, including Manchester's Hit the North.

Until late 1993 the band usually played small gigs, but then Oasis signed with Creation Records, the company that released the band's first single, "Supersonic" during the spring of 1994 which hit the UK charts shortly after.

After receiving mostly positive reviews, Oasis' debut album, "Definitely Maybe", was released in August 2004. Meanwhile, "Supersonic" began to climb the American modern rock charts and the band focused their efforts in touring the United States during 1995 promoting the single "Live Forever" that eventually would become an MTV's hit.

After the American tour, Oasis returned to the UK and recorded "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" released in October 1995, an album that topped at number one on the British charts, considered the fastest-selling album in the UK since Michael Jackson's 1987 "Bad" album.

After their second album breakthrough into the mainstream, Oasis has recorded and released four more albums between 1997 and 2005 for a total of six in their discography. Some critics have said that the band's popularity strives in their early musical influences including The Beatles, The Kinks, The Who, and the Rolling Stones.

During 2007, Oasis was awarded with the BRIT Award for their outstanding contribution to music. The band also announced the release of a DVD in October which confirmed their next album to be released sometime in 2008.
