sugarcult

Californian alternative rock band Sugarcult was formed in 1998 in Santa Barbara by Tim Pagnotta (guitar & vocals), Marko DeSantis (guitar), Airin Older (bass), and Ben Davis (drums), who eventually was replaced by Kenny Livingston. Marko DeSantis, also known as Marko 72 revealed that the band took their name from the nickname of their lesbian neighbors.

In fact, the quartet was initially a trio, which playing at a local club as opening act for Superdrag met Marko 72, rounded the band. Marko had previous experience with bands such as the Ataris, Swingin' Utters, and Nerf Herder joined Sugarcult in time to record their debut album "Start Static" released on Ultimatum Records in 2001.

Sugarcult’s breakthrough into the mainstream occurred simultaneously with single cuts "Bouncing Off the Walls" and "Stuck in America" hitting the Billboard charts. This incandescent debut secured a slot for the band in the summer Warp tour 2001, originally scheduled for two weeks but the impressive response of their fans extended their calendar dates up to two months.

Ben Davis left the band in 2002 and Kenny Livington took his place until present day continue with tours and other live performances. In 2004, the band was signed by Fearless Records, releasing "Palm Trees and Power Lines" an album that peaked number one on Billboard Top Independent chart.

In 2005, Sugarcult went with Green Day's American Idol tour as opening act, and the band was also included in the Take Action Tour, again on the Warped Tour, and then going to Glastonbury Festival in England and also the Japan's Summer Sonic Festival.

The next year, Sugarcult was invited for a guest appearance in the film "Employee of the Month", and during 2007 Tim Pagnotta participated in the Secret Weapon's MxPx album as guests star in the song "Shut It Down". As of today, all of the band's activities can be found posted at their official website.

Between 1999 and 2006, Sugarcult has recorded seven albums. The list includes "Eleven" (1999), "Wrap Me Up In Plastic" (2000), "Start Static" (2001), "Palm Trees and Power Lines" (2004), "A Hard Day's Night" (2005), "Back to the Disaster" (Live) (2005), and "Lights Out" (2006).
