Singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson was born on Staten Island, New York and is one of the newest representatives of the Indie pop in America, keeping her status of unsigned artists since her debut in 2002.

Ingrid was born daughter to artist Carl Michaelson and sculptor Elizabeth Egbert. Her first interest in music came at age 5 when she took piano lessons and then after Ingrid Michaelson received formal training at age 7 attending the Manhattan's Third Street Music School.

In her teen years, Ingrid Michaelson continued learning music at the Jewish Community Center of S.I.'s Dorothy Delson Kuhn Music Institute in New York. It was at this place where she met and worked with coach Elizabeth McCullough while attending the Staten Island Technical High School.

After her high school graduation, Ingrid Michaelson, attended the Binghamton University and earned a degree in theatre before fully concentrating on singing music and writing her own original songs.

Contrary to other singers, Ingrid Michaelson is not renowned by live presentations or the like, but through her songs for soundtracks and television shows. Some of them include OTHH (One Tree Hill), aired from September 23, 2003 through June 13, 2007 by Warner Bros. Channel, or ABC’s award winning Grey's Anatomy, television medical drama, which fourth season just begun on September 2007.

Incidentally, she continues achieving success with her music as a part of media, including the 2007 Old Navy Autumn commercial, in which the single "The way I am” can be heard as background music.

As of today, Ingrid Michaelson has released only two full-length studio albums, her debut album, "Slow the Rain" (1995) and "Girls and Boys (Ingrid Michaelson album)" (2006).

In September 2007, after the exposure that television has given her, Ingrid Michaelson debuted on "Last Call with Carson Daly" a late night NBC talk show, which is hosted by former MTV VJ Carson Daly.

Also during 2007, Ingrid's single "The Way I Am" peaked at number 80 on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart and hit number six on the iTunes stores alongside with the new hit "Keep Breathing", featured as last season's finale of "Grey's Anatomy".
