Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Kiersten Quin are identical and talented twins born on September 19, 1980 in Calgary, Alberta. Performing just as Tegan and Sara, these Canadian singers and songwriters have gained recognition beyond their own country's boundaries with their energetic Indie pop rock.
The sisters began their musical career in 1995 as a duo named PLUNK with no major success. Even though, Tegan and Sara decided to stop their garage band roots and take music seriously. Taking advantage of their high school recording studio, the girls recorded two albums in 1997, "Who's in Your Band?" and "Play Day", this last one submitted later as a Broadcasting and Communication class project.
However, the opportunity to make a name for themselves came in 1998 after winning the Calgary's local competition "Garage Warz Battle of the Bands" with the highest score ever achieved. This breakthrough put Tegan and Sara on the road touring with renowned musicians such as The Pretenders, Neil Young, Bryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright, Vivek Shraya, Veda Hille, and Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair tour concert, just to name a few.
They also recorded their first professional demo tape as Sara & Tegan but because their names did not blend together this way, they changed it to Tegan and Sara recording two more demo tapes. As the sisters began to gain a fan base, Neil Young's manager became part of it and eventually signed the duo to Vapor Records (Neil Young's label). Sire, a Warner Music Group records label, was also signed to release the twins' records in the United States and the rest of the world.
Tegan and Sara's debut album was "Under Feet Like Ours", recorded in 1999, and released in July 2000 as "Sara and Tegan" so there were a post-releasing in 2001 correcting the order of their names. Now as Tegan and Sara, the following albums, "This Business of Art" (2000), "If It Was You" (2002), and "So Jealous" (2004) succeeded in North America one after another.
In 2007, the releasing of their new album, "The Con", has led Tegan and Sara to their first worldwide tour while their music keeps topping the top-ten charts.
