eurythmics

Eurythmics is the name of a new wave techno-rock duo that was formed with Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart in 1989 in London, England, although in 1977 Annie and Dave were romantic partners that worked together with The Tourists, a British pop band from Sunderland.

Since their debut in 1981 with the album "In The Garden", Eurythmics has sold over 75 million albums worldwide and has won numerous awards.

Despite Eurythmics' early production was basically based on synth-pop, a rock genre that faded away in 1984, the duo has remained in the charts consolidating their work as solo artist as well.

Eurythmic’s breakthrough into the mainstream came with their album "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of this)" released in 1983. This album produced two major hit songs, the album's title “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" and "Here Comes the Rain Again" that not only hit the UK and US charts, but made the duo international stars.

The expressive alto voice of Annie Lennox, along with her innovative look and the mastership production techniques of Dave Stewart caused a commotion in the music scene after both singles' videos were aired through MTV.

With such a huge success, Eurythmics released ten albums in only 7 years; In The Garden (1981), Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (1983), Touch (1983), Touch Dance (1984), 1984 (For The Love Of Big Brother) (1984), Be Yourself Tonight (1985), Revenge (1986), Savage (1987) and We Too Are One (1988), most of which went gold, platinum, and double platinum.

During the decade of the 90’s, the duo's production was limited to "Greatest Hits" (1991), "Live 1983-1989" (1993) and "Peace" (1999). However, during this period of time, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart spent more time on their individual projects that kept the Eurythmics' popularity intact.

The turn of the century has produced only two compilations of hits released in 2005 and 2006, years in which all the Eurythmics catalog was reissued by Legacy Recordings, a Sony BMG Music Entertainment that has added to the albums bonus tracks.

Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart have performed together on TV shows during the past few years promoting their 2000’s greatest hits albums.
