dierks bentley

Born in Phoenix, Arizona on November 20, 1975, Dierks Bentley did not know he would grow up to be a household name.

After graduating, he moved to Nashville and attended Vanderbilt University for a short period. He found a job at the Nashville Network. He sat for hours upon hours making a binder of songs and singers who would eventually be his heroes. He did not mind doing little things as long as it brought him close to country music. He started performing at small little hole-in-the-wall places until he eventually opened for big names like George Strait. Whether it was 10 minutes on the stage before George Strait to three-hour long lines for autographs, Dierks loved it all. He never complained that he had to do a 10-minute gig here and drive two hours there…it was all pacing him for the big time. To him each step was important and exciting as he was still close to the country music scene.

He knew he made it when his first debut, "What Was I Thinkin", was a number one hit. He followed with two more hit singles. To this day, he is still popping number ones out right and left.

He was the youngest member to be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on October 1, 2005. He won the Horizon Award at the CMA Awards show. In addition, in December of the same year he married his high school sweetheart Cassidy Black in Mexico.

Dierks newest album has a religious flavor. His belief in Christianity is really shown in the songs, "The Heaven I'm Headed To", and "Prodigal Son's Prayer".

He still has his binder full of songs he made when he self-taught Music 101 to himself at Nashville network. He drags it out in the studio to help him with new songs. The pages are torn and tattered but still there. It is his symbol to the lifelong commitment to country music. Dierks still says to this day, "From day one, it's been the same attitude from Lower Broadway, not worrying about money, just trying to build up fans one handshake and one beer at a time."
