colbie caillat

Californian singer and songwriter Colbie Caillat was born in 1985 in Newbury Park, California, daughter to Ken and Diane Caillat. Her father is renowned music producer who worked for the famous band Fleetwood Mac, produced the Rumours, Tusk, Mirage, and Live, and later helped Colbie producing her songs.

Colbie Caillat grew up in Malibu and was influenced by the traditional pop music that characterizes the pacific coast. However, soul and folk were the genres that forged Colbie’s musical identity as an R&B folk singer before evolving to new pop sensation featuring a MySpace profile that generates over 17 million plays as of 2007.

During her early years, Colbie Caillat took piano lesson, but she was not interested in music until age 11. Her parents encouraged Colbie to start vocal lessons.

At age 15, Colbie met producer Mikal Blue, who hired her to sing on a runway models' show and four years later she learned to play acoustic guitar. She then joined fellow musician Jason "Jay" Reeves to record the first song she ever composed.

Colbie Caillat's career began officially in 2005 when her first single "Bubbly" was made available through MySpace, becoming the number one unsigned singer for four months.

Colbie’s debut album, "Coco", was just released in the summer of 2007. Several tracks of "Coco" have reached the charts, including "Bubbly", The Little Things," and "Feelings Show". "Coco" was also number one album on the iTunes chart and hit number five on Billboard's 200 chart.

The first week after her debut album was released; Colbie Caillat had sold 51,000 copies. "Bubbly" was designated "Single of the Week" for iTunes. On radio, Colbie has been supported through 96.6 TFM and Hallam FM, where she has been a disc jockey.

Colbie was invited to VH1 and the Today Show, where she declared that all of her songs are written in her bathroom because that is the only place where acoustics reverbs the way she wants.

Today, Colbie continues displaying her talent as guitarist touring with The Goo Goo Dolls while the number of her online friends at MySpace has surpassed 200,000 in the last quarter of 2007.
