Born in Norfolk, Virginia on March 10, 1971, Timothy Z. Mosley is a record producer and rapper better known as Timbaland. He met Missy Elliot and Melvin Barcliff, and after hearing his music style Missy started to work with him to better his talents. Mosley began making up music on his keyboard. The three of them moved to Suffern, NY. There he started work under Devante and he was the one to rename them Timbaland. Ever since, it seems like everything just falls into place for them.
They worked on and off with different groups and singers like, Ginuwine, Playa, and Sugah. They made an album called "The Show, The After-Party, The Hotel". However, this album never saw the light of day. In 1995, they went their own ways and broke the ties with the producer. Elliott, Timbaland, Magoo, Playa, and Ginuwine still work together but are also pursuing solo projects. Producing remixes of Elliott-penned songs, Timbaland had their first important credit for production.
Ginuwine release their debut album called, "Ginuwine the Bachelor", which was produced by Timbaland. This album was a huge success and the first single off it called "Pony" became Timbaland's signature sound. After they finished Ginuwine's album they were contacted by Aaliyah to write and produce her second album titled "One in a Million". This album made superstars out of Aaliyah and a successful producing company for Elliott and Timbaland. Artists from all over started having them produce their albums including SWV, Destiny's Child, Nicole Wray, Total, Jay-Z, and Nas. Timbaland has been compared to famous producers such as Phil Spector, Brian Eno, and Norman Whitfield. At times, his sounds become more recognized than the artists themselves. This made him feel so proud. Not too many artists can say they have that said about them.
