John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr create the members of the English musical rock-pop band known to all as the Beatles. Even though each member has contributed to various musical groups and are talented in their own right, no one will know them better than when they were the rave as the Beatles.
March 1957 in Liverpool John Lennon started a band by the name of Quarrymen this was just the beginning. Various names were tried by the group until they finally settled on The Beatles with members at the time being John, Paul, George, and drummer Pete Best in 1960.
While recording with EMI under a one-year contract, Martin the head of EMI suggested changing drummers as Best was often off beat, refused to change his hairstyle to join the other members, and had missed several engagements due to illness. Ringo Starr took his place as drummer, which created the Beatles we all know and love.
The first EMI session was performed on June 6, 1962; however, none of the songs was considered release worthy, however, in September all that changed. “Love Me Do†peaked the charts at 17 in the UK and peaked the top of the US charts by May 1964. The second single released was “Please Please Me†which hit number 2 on the UK charts and number one on the NME chart. In only three months, they were recording their first album also titled “Please Please Meâ€.
The Beatle’s success was on a roll and did not cease. The last performance of the Beatles was on January 30, 1969 atop the Apple building in Savile Row, London. In the summer of this same year, they released their final album Abbey Road with the song “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)†which marked the last time all four Beatles would be in a recording studio together. The group totally split in 1975 and all four released solo albums.
John Lennon was killed on December 8, 1980 in New York City where he was shot by Mark David Chapman. In 1981, the other three Beatles reunited and recorded “All Those Years Ago.†In 1988, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
George Harrison was diagnosed with lung cancer during the late 1990’s and passed away on November 29, 2001.
